A discussion is currently underway between Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe and back benchers of the United National Party.

Speaking to News24, UNP MP Nalin Bandara said that back benchers of the UNP had been notified to be present at Temple Trees at 10.30 this morning.

Meanwhile the United National Party says that it will continue the government for the remainder of its term.

Chairman of the UNP Malik Samarawickrema said that the UNP will continue the government for the next two-and-a-half years, adding that whichever party that wishes may join the UNP in governance.

Moreover, the President’s Office issuing a statement last evening said that no agreement has been reached with UNP on the future course of political activities and on forming a coalition at local government bodies, where no clear cut majority has been achieved by either side.
