Cult of Chucky arrives on Netflix streaming next month. That’s the very same month that the new slasher sequel arrives on DVD and Blu-ray, so those who opted not to pre-order the physical disc will still get a chance to check out Chucky’s latest adventure in short order. Netflix doesn’t often get access to new films that fast, so it’s a pretty cool treat for fans who’ve been not so patiently waiting for Cult to debut.
Cult of Chucky is the seventh film in the Chucky/Child’s Play horror franchise, and while most would likely assume that most franchises would have run out of ideas by film seven, that’s actually not the case for a surprising number of horror series. A Nightmare on Elm Street‘s seventh film was Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, an experimental precursor to Craven’s later Scream. Friday the 13th Part VII introduced the cool twist of Jason fighting a Carrie-like psychic girl. 1998’s Halloween H20 revived its franchise by bringing back Jamie Lee Curtis, and ignoring the increasingly convoluted sequels that came before.
