The first logo and artwork from Square Enix’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider may have been revealed this weekend. When thinking about all of the major video game reboots of pre-existing properties that have come out over the past few years, it’s hard to come up with one quite as successful as Square Enix’s revamped take on Tomb Raider and the death-defying adventures of its lead heroine, Lara Croft. Beginning in 2013 with Tomb Raider, the reboot offered a new version of Lara’s origin story, to widespread critical acclaim and financial success at the time, despite how skeptical some fans were prior to its release.
That success only continued in 2015’s Rise of the Tomb Raider, the studio’s long-awaited follow-up to the 2013 reboot, which continued to take Lara on even more deadly, awe-inspiring and tomb raiding adventures. And with even better graphics and player controls, Rise of the Tomb Raider wound up on many “Best Of” lists in 2015, officially cementing Tomb Raider‘s place again as one of the best narrative-driven properties in the gaming industry currently.
